The Ozarks

Ok, no more travelling for a while!

We just returned from spending the weekend in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.  I was invited to judge the print competition for the Professional Photographers of the Ozarks.   Heather went with me this time and it made for a great weekend getaway!

Once the judging was over, we had a chance to visit Downtown Eureka Springs, which is a great little town.  It almost looks like a movie set.

I would highly recommend this place if you just want to get a way from it all for a few days.  There are tons of great shops and restaurants.  Best of all, everyone we encountered was incredibly friendly!

On our way out of town, we stopped by what used to be the town’s fire station.  There is place where you can pay a dollar and climb a million stairs up to the top of this tower.  It really gives you a great view of the surrounding countryside.  Luckily, we were there at a great time to experience the fall foliage.  From the top of the tower, I took this shot of some of the colorful trees.

Aside from the long climb up the steep staircase, the thing I remember most is that it seemed like the temperature was about 20 degrees at the top of the tower.  It was already chilly that day and the wind up top made it incredibly cold!  We climbed to the top, shot a few pictures and scrambled back down to the bottom.

Its hard to beat the Ozarks in the fall and I hope I can make it back there next year.
